The DS-5000iD is the same as the DS-5000, but includes an extra security feature: a biometric fingerprint reader. This unique feature makes it easy for users to unlock their recorder by simply swiping their finger over the reader on the back of the recorder. 

NOTE: These new recorders are NOT replacements for the DS-4000. In fact, the bestselling DS-4000 will continue to be an important part of the Olympus line-up at least through 2008.
